Disposable gloves: types and sectors of use

24 Feb.,2024

Disposable gloves are the ideal personal protection solution in many contexts. Each reference sector has its own specific needs and requirements, so there are different types of disposable gloves that meet individual needs efficiently.

Disposable gloves are mainly distinguished by the material from which they are made, which will then be in contact with the wearer’s skin.

Let’s examine each material used to produce the Reflexx gloves, as well as the contexts of use.

latex gloves

When we talk about disposable gloves, the first category that usually comes to mind is that of latex gloves, which are super-resistant to punctures and tears but also completely waterproof.

However, latex has one major drawback: it causes an allergic reaction in some people, although today this is less common than 30 years ago because many of the allergy-causing proteins have been extracted from commercial products.  In any case, the best choice today for those who discover they are allergic to latex proteins is nitrile, a material that is also found in our disposable gloves and which we will talk about in a moment.

Returning to latex disposable gloves, we would like to tell you that it is an excellent choice of protection for many fields and is, in fact, extremely popular.

Certainly very common in the medical (also laboratories) and dental sectors, but also a high-performance solution for industries, beauty centres, hairdressing salons, tattoo parlours and cleaning/service companies.

Nitrile gloves

As we said earlier, nitrile is the best alternative to latex, but not only that, nitrile gloves are also ideal in situations where latex gloves are highly unsuitable, as are vinyl gloves.  An excellent example of this is the use of nitrile disposable gloves in the Ho.Re.Ca. and food industries.

Let’s not forget, however, that they are also excellent for use by allergy sufferers in sectors with widespread use of latex gloves, i.e. in the medical and dental fields, industrial companies, beauty salons, tattoo parlours and cleaning/service companies.

Vinyl gloves

Vinyl disposable gloves are made from (polyvinylchloride) granules, one of the most widely used types of plastic, and also from plasticisers (mostly phthalates), which make them more flexible and mouldable.

For this reason, vinyl gloves refer to the regulations on plastic materials, unlike latex and nitrile gloves which comply with the regulations on rubber materials.

They are a cost-effective alternative to latex and nitrile gloves and are mainly used in the healthcare sector (nursing homes) for personal care and hygiene.

Polyethylene gloves

If you are not familiar with polyethylene, you should know that it is one of the most widely used and least expensive plastics. It is usually identified by the letters PE. Very stable chemically, it is an excellent insulator for films and bags that come into contact with food.

There are two types of polyethylene disposable gloves, depending on the type of polyethylene used in their production: high-density PE (HDPE) and low-density PE (LDPE).

The first is stiffer and harder and is chosen above all due to its low cost. It is used, for example, in petrol stations and grocery stores. Whereas the second is more pliable, less rigid and therefore used in situations requiring greater hand sensitivity, such as in the medical field.

But it doesn’t end there…are you familiar with CPE or Cast PE? We’re talking about a polyurethane formulation that is made with a calendering process. This gives the disposable gloves a special knurled surface for superior sensitivity and grip.

Finally, let’s not forget tpe gloves (thermoplastic elastomer gloves), which are perfect for handling fatty and oily foodstuffs, very sensitive and with an effective grip, also characterised by an increased thickness that offers considerable resistance.

Supported work gloves

Wondering what supported work gloves are? They are protective gloves in coated fabric that are made by immersing the knitted fabric glove in a liquid such as nitrile or polyurethane.

They are multi-purpose work gloves that guarantee excellent protection, resistance and comfort in all areas of professional use, especially in the nitrile version, because they prove to be highly versatile, safe and durable. They also have a very high level of ergonomics and wearability due to their intrinsic qualities of mechanical resistance and elasticity.

Let’s now summarise all the advantages of Reflexx supported work gloves:

  • Safety of use for operators;
  • Optimum grip thanks to the nitrile or polyurethane coating;
  • High tactile sensitivity thanks to the fineness of the yarns used;
  • Perfect fit on the hands.
